HEIGHT OF LAND

For many years the overlook at Height of Land, a special spot along RT. 17 heading towards Rangeley, was no more than a sliver of rock and gravel alongside the road.
Today, thanks to the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust and many talented people, there is now a spectacular 700 foot long turnout and rest area. In July of 2012 this fabulous new addition to the Rangeley region was celebrated. Surrounding the overlook is over 500 acreas of forest land that was purchased by the RLHT, forever preserving this gorgeous view. The parcel of land is adjacent to the Appalacian Trail and stretches to Bemis Stream where it enters the Mooselookmeguntic Lake.
Lakes and Ponds are found all over the region. Cupsuptic Lake located west of Oquossoc, Saddleback Lake located north of Saddleback Mountain, Loon Lake is located north of Steve Bean Municipal Airport. Beaver Mountain Lake is one of the smaller lakes on the left hand side as you approach Rangeley on Route 4.
Then there are the ponds, (which are more like lakes in many cases) Gull Pond located off of Gull Pond Road off of Route 16 towards Stratton. Haley Pond found right in the town of Rangeley, Dodge Pond and Quimby Pond both accessed by Route 4 towards Oquossoc from Rangeley.
